Condolences on the passing of Retired Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice – the Late Mr Justice Jacob Wit
- 18 January 2024
The Judiciary has noted with profound sadness the passing of Mr Justice Jacob Wit, Retired Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), and extends condolences to the President and staff of the CCJ and to his family.
Justice Wit has left a legacy across the many areas of law in which he worked, inclusive of but not limited to, military law, administrative law, constitutional law, and international human rights law. His service to the region was enhanced when he joined the Caribbean Court of Justice in 2005, as a member of its inaugural bench, where he served until his recent retirement. Justice Wit was indeed a legal luminary whose work enriched Caribbean jurisprudence and contributed to a stronger region.
Justice Wit’s commitment and service are reflected in the breadth and depth of his work and so, even as his passing is mourned, his life and his many achievements must be celebrated.
The Judiciary hopes his family, colleagues and loved ones will find comfort at this difficult time.
May he rest in peace.
