British High Commission Donates Legal Texts to the Judiciary

On January 26, 2021, the British High Commission presented a number of legal texts to the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago. The presentation of these texts follows training conducted in 2019 by Mr Howard Riddle, CBE, former Chief Magistrate of England and Wales, to Trinidad and Tobago’s Magistrates on the implementation of the TT Criminal Procedure Rules. Former Chief Magistrate Riddle donated the texts, which the High Commission presented to the Judiciary for each Magistrate in Trinidad and Tobago. Several copies of another text authored by Former Chief Magistrate Riddle were purchased by the High Commission and also presented to the Judiciary.
The venue of the ceremony was the Judiciary’s Judicial Education Institute and the presentation was made by Her Excellency Ms Harriet Cross, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Trinidad and Tobago and received by The Honourable the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Ivor Archie O.R.T.T., on behalf of the Magistrates.
Those in attendance at the event included the Honourable Justice Gillian Lucky, J.A. and Chairman of the Judicial Education Institute; Her Worship Cherril Anne Antoine, Deputy Chief Magistrate; Ms Caroline Kangalee, Director Court Library Services of the Department of Court Administration, and other officials of the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago and the British High Commission.
The High Commissioner recalled the high regard in which Former Chief Magistrate Riddle held the Trinidad and Tobago Magistrates during his visit to this country and expressed her pleasure in continuing the many initiatives that the High Commission has conducted with the Trinidad and Tobago Judiciary. Chief Justice Archie paid tribute to the training that was offered in 2019 by the Former Chief Magistrate of the United Kingdom, conveyed his thanks for the invaluable materials that were donated and looked forward to the continuation of the high level of collaboration between the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago and the British High Commission.
