The Honourable Mr. Justice Mendonҫa, JA
The Honourable Mr. Justice Mendonҫa obtained his secondary education at St. Mary’s College from 1967 to 1972. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) at the University of Toronto in 1977 and a Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) at the University of the West Indies in 1979, followed by the Legal Education Certificate of the Sir Hugh Wooding Law School in 1981.
After being admitted to practise as a Solicitor in October 1981, he worked as an associate at De Nobriga Inniss & Company (now Lex Caribbean) from 1981 to 1984, then as partner in the same chambers from 1985 to 1997.
Between 1988 and 1998, Mr. Mendonҫa was head of the litigation department of the firm. In February 1991, he was admitted to practise as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales. In April 1997, he was appointed Acting Judge of the High Court of Trinidad & Tobago. Mr. Mendonҫa then returned to his private practice before his permanent appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court of Trinidad & Tobago on 1st May 1999.The Honourable Judge was appointed to the Court of Appeal on Friday 2nd April, 2004.
