Judicial Education Institute

JEI began operations in 2003 and provides training and educational programmes for judicial officers, court administrators and support staff. By doing so, it assists the Judiciary to perform in a manner that upholds its independence and integrity and ensures public trust and confidence in the administration of justice.

  4. JEI Educational Monograph – Vol. 1 of 2010 - Papers Presented at the 2010 Judges’ and Masters’ Continuing Education Seminar 2010 - Understanding the Evidence Amendment Act No. 16 of 2009.

  5. JEI Sentencing Handbook – Published and formally launched January 2011. This Handbook will serve as a reference guide for all judges and judicial officers of the range of sentences imposed for selected specific offences together with an indication of aggravating and mitigating factors. The research has been undertaken by local judges and judicial officers assisted by their judicial research assistants. We are very proud of this publication and have already had a great deal of positive feedback from judges, judicial officers and external stakeholders.

The TTJEI is committed to fostering research and publication by local judges and judicial officers, and these initiatives will continue.
