Family Court

The Family Court Pilot was established in 2004 with jurisdiction over specific family matters at the High Court and Magistrates’ Court levels. The approach to administering justice is less adversarial and more conciliatory. The court provides support to families while they pursue litigation.

Children's Waiting Room

The Family Court Children’s Waiting Room provides services strictly to children between the ages of three (3) months to ten (10) years old of persons who are engaged in court or other legal proceedings, or have business with the Mediation or Social Services Unit at the Family Court.

Well trained officers supervise these children attending the waiting room.

The room is well equipped with toys, and activities for small children.

Activities include:

  • Reading
  • Puzzle building
  • Fun and educational games
  • Fun physical activities.

Pre Requirements for the Children's Waiting Room

Persons who wish to utilize these services are required to produce some form of identification such as:

  • National Identification Card (ID card)
  • National Passport
  • Drivers Permit.

If you are somehow unable to produce any of the above you will be require to have your photo taken by one of the Day Care Officers.

There are a number of forms to be completed. This is to ensure the safety of your children and that all relevant information is available in the event of an emergency.

Persons can print and fill out the forms beforehand, but signing must be done in the Children’s Waiting Room in the presence of the Family Court Day Care Officers.
